EUROGUSS is the biggest and most important trade fair for die casting, where the international die casting industry will meet again for the 14th time. The trade fair focuses on innovative solutions for die casting processes such as aluminium, magnesium and zinc die casting, along with rapid prototyping, die casting machinery and material testing. EUROGUSS, which takes place every two years, set records in 2020 with 758 exhibitors and 14,599 trade visitors.

New £500k Machinery Installation in progress

The new Punch Power Train installation continues with the installation of the new CNC’s, 20 tonne, £500K+ our new G320! Few nerves but all went to plan. Plenty of these to come + the robotics, conveyors, automation, washers, etc. Fantastic to see the new machine shop starting to take shape in anticipation of producing our new product. Go RYOBI securing future orders in a changing landscape and securing jobs!

Ryobi Wins Award at All Ireland Safety Awards in Killarney

We are delighted to announce that for the second year running Ryobi has won a major safety award, at the 30th All Ireland Safety Awards held in Killarney on 4th November.

This year we picked up a category 1 safety award “Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing/Assembly”.

The award submissions are independently assessed by a panel of members from the National Irish Safety Organisation and the Northern Ireland Safety Group and category 1 awards require a minimum score of 70% across 12 assessed areas of safety management.

This reflects the tremendous efforts we have all put in to make Ryobi a safe and healthy place to work, despite a certain pandemic. That’s a trend we want to continue.

Kenton Hilman, head of corporate and property banking at Ulster Bank NI, said: “Having received a record level of entries to this year’s Belfast Telegraph Business Awards in partnership with Ulster Bank, judges had the unenviable task of selecting winners across all 14 categories.

“Each of the winners has demonstrated impressive levels of innovation and ingenuity and they represent the kind of entrepreneurial spirit we need in the business community, particularly as the economy continues to recover.

“This year more than ever, I want to congratulate the category winners on their success.

Ryobi receives Highly Commended Award in the Best Health & Safety in Manufacturing category at the 2021 Safety, Health & Excellence Awards

Ryobi Aluminium Casting (UK) Ltd are delighted to have received the Highly Commended Award in the Best Health & Safety in Manufacturing category at the 2021 Safety, Health & Excellence Awards held on the 28th April 2021.

These awards are held annually across the UK and 2020 saw over 200 entries for 10 categories of award. Awards are judged by an independent panel of experts who are looking for evidence of safety performance and management excellence.

Ryobi Engineer scoops Apprentice of the Year Award

Ryobi is proud to announce that Gareth Harkness, an apprentice Engineer from Ballymena, has been crowned Apprentice of the Year 2014.

Gareth, 19, works in the Die Cast Engineering department at Ryobi, and is completing his apprenticeship in Engineering at Northern Regional College, Ballymena.
Employers and training organisations from all over Northern Ireland were asked to nominate apprentices who they felt had shown commitment, occupational progress and enthusiasm in their chosen apprenticeship.
The awards ceremony, organised by the Department for Employment and Learning, was held in Hillsborough Castle and was hosted by presenter Claire McCollum.

Congratulating the winners, Minister for Employment and Learning Dr Stehen Farry said: “The array of talent on display today is testament to the high level of skills and talent that exists in Northern Ireland. I congratulate Gareth, the Apprentice of the Year, and all the other apprentices here today on their achievements and wish them continued success in their chosen careers. Gareth is an excellent example of how an apprentice can form an integral part of a company.”

Barry Ferris, Die Cast Engineering Manager at Ryobi Aluminium Castings, said:“Gareth is rated highly amongst management and staff and is meticulous about his work. He has shown great ability, and his first project led to significant savings for the company. Since this he has become involved in higher level products, coming up with innovative ideas and solutions. His strengths reside in his ability to identify faults and if necessary redesign products, reducing downtime whilst maintaining a close eye on quality. Without doubt Gareth’s work is way beyond the remit of an apprentice and is certainly on par with experienced engineers. His future with Ryobi is very promising and his contribution greatly appreciated.”

Environmental Case Study

The Company

Ryobi Aluminium Casting (UK) Ltd based in Carrickfergus, is an Invest NI customer manufacturing high quality, technically complex cast aluminium products mainly for the automotive industry. Its parent company is based in Japan.
Ryobi has been a member of the Industrial Symbiosis (IS) Service since 2008.

The Challenge

Following a change in its manufacturing process Ryobi contacted the IS service to find a solution for a quantity of redundant plastic packing dividers made from high density polyethylene (HDPE). This packing material was no longer utilised on site and Ryobi had approximately 20tonnes in storage pending disposal. To maintain compliance with Health and Safety and environmental regulations Ryobi was keen to find a solution that would be environmentally sustainable and also divert the material from landfill.

The Solution

The IS practitioner took a sample of the HDPE to show to potential solution providers and then introduced Ryobi to Renewable Products. This company was geographically close to the Ryobi site and could take the material for reprocessing back into a reusable resource. After a short period of discussion the two companies completed a deal that was economically and environmentally acceptable.

The Benefits

This synergy demonstrates the value of involvement in the Industrial Symbiosis service. Ryobi has been able to maintain its health, safety and environmental credentials by finding a sustainable solution for redundant stock. This has saved the company from paying costly landfill charges and Renewable Products was able to sell the HDPE recyclate to other companies for use in the manufacture of new products.

Robinson and McGuinness announce £32million investment by Ryobi, creating 100 new jobs

On 4 February 2014, Ryobi Aluminium Casting (UK), Limited was delighted to host a meeting to announce the investment of £32million in its Carrickfergus plant, creating 100 new jobs, with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

Ryobi Chairman, Hiroshi Urakami, flew from Japan to attend the event, and greeted guests, who included First Minister Peter Robinson, deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, Invest NI Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton, and Invest NI Director Kevin McCann.

John Hughes, Managing Director, briefed visitors on the company’s growth and future plans, and the Ministers and guests were given a short tour of the facility to view the die casting machines and the new robot-operated machinery. The Ministers then addressed the media in the training room.
